Scholarship Benefits/Coverage

DAAD Helmut Schmidt Scholarship is a fully funded scholarship, The scholarship holder will receive the following benefits;

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the DAAD Helmut Schmidt Scholarship, applicants must;

  • be a well-qualified first university degree and above-average grades (upper third) in Social and Political Sciences, Law, Economics, Public Policy and Administration
  • willing to actively contribute to the social, political, and economic development of their home countries/regions
  • have already gained practical experience relevant to the program (professional experience, internships, political/social
    commitment)

Required Documents

  • A ticked-off checklist and list of criteria, signed by hand (Print the application form and sign it by hand, then scan it and include it in your documents, indicating the place and date of issue.
  • Complete the DAAD Application Form.
  • Write a Letter of Motivation (max. 2 pages) addressing the selection criteria and include the date of issue.
  • Prepare a Curriculum Vitae (CV) in reverse chronological order in Europass format, including the date of issue. Provide exact information about your studies and practical experience; explain any gaps of three months or more.
  • Provide higher education degree certificates. If not in German or English, provide a certified translation and ensure legibility.
  • Include a full set of transcripts of records. Explain the grading system. Provide a transcript in English or German if the original certificate is not in English or German.
  • Practical experience relevant to the Helmut-Schmidt Programme.
  • Submit proof of English language skills.
  • Obtain a current written reference from your current employer or a university lecturer if you are a current student. It must be on headed paper, and include an original (not scanned) or code-certified digital signature, the date of issue, and a stamp. If necessary, provide a certified translation.
  • Applicants from the Peopleʼs Republic of China are asked to submit an APS Certificate with their application documents
